The state-of-the-art Cerritos Sheriff's Station/Community Safety Center was opened in 1997 to provide a full range of public safety services for Cerritos residents, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Station serves as headquarters for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department personnel serving Cerritos and the City's Community Safety Division.
Located adjacent to Cerritos City Hall, the public entrance to the building is on the top floor of the facility, through a spacious lobby highlighted by a skylight. The City's Community Safety Division is located on this floor, along with the Sheriff's service counter, a communications center and meeting rooms.
The second floor contains Sheriff's Department operations, including a training/briefing room, booking and custody areas, holding cells and lockers. Some 14,000 square feet of secured parking for Sheriff's personnel is also located on this level. The bottom floor consists of parking for City staff.
Mobile Police Station
The Cerritos Sheriff’s Station utilizes a mobile police station equipped with surveillance cameras and emergency equipment such as barricades, road flares, crime scene tape and the Sheriff’s Department tactical radio system. The vehicle is also stocked with supplies for strategic planning meetings, file cabinets, kitchen equipment, and an awning and portable tables and chairs so residents can meet with Sheriff’s personnel one on one.
The mobile police station serves as a field command post during unusual occurrences and tactical operations and provides increased visibility at the Los Cerritos Center, Cerritos Towne Center, in residential neighborhoods and at special events throughout the City.
The station was purchased in 2000 with a $117,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
